Has anyone experiemented with an aircraft's .air file? I downloaded the above editor that will allow changes to be made to the aerodynamics and other variables affecting the flight characteristics as well as changing equipment settings and so forth.
This is the section that I believe might hold the key to spooling up the engines a bit more realistically on the VistaLiner B727. The unknowns are just that. No one knows except the people who have developed the aircraft what those variables are.
When comparing this file with others from FS2K2, these numbers are vastly different is some cases from the stock aircraft. However, the same unknown variables exist in the stock flight models too.
I haven't modified any of this yet, but even so, the program automatically makes three backup files of the .air file just in case something isn't working out.
Any input from developers or experimenters would be appreciated.
I think what I may do is copy the .air file from the fleet installed B727 and use those variable in the VistaLiner's B727.

Spool up rate is in table 1505 in the airfile. Get aircraft airfile manager ( www.aircraftmanager.com) or AirEd (simradar). Useful link:

Yep. That's why I'm backing up everything and printing everything out before making changes.
I've already figured out that the configuration horn is sounding because the spoilers are rising too fast for the amount of aileron input. I'm going to fix that too.

This is the super-slow spoolup time on the Vistaliners, Michael? So if we've got the Vistaliners bird in the Fleet Installer, why doesn't it have the same problem--did somebody already mess with the FDE on ours?

That's possible I guess. I'm still experimenting with tables and graphs. I haven't noticed any changes in spool time however.
I fooled with it for an hour or more, saving it each time, and then testing the throttle response. It's still slower than syrup on a cold day.
I've only been into two tables so far, one is the Turbine Corrected Fuel Flow vs CN2, the other is the Spool-up time. Neither which seem to be having the slightest effect on throttle response. The table descriptions indicate that I'm in the right tables, but nothing is happening.
I *was* able to silence that damn configuration horn for the most part.

Well, after one more try I have them spooling just fine now. Not quite as fast as the old fleet installer, but definately faster than they were. This is just the setting I was after. Sure glad I tried again.
I think I've found a good middle ground here. The power is much easier to set now and the throttles close faster.

Yes it does. That was explained in the program. I just couldn't find the right variables at first. But you're right. Persistence pays off and I'm not one to give up easily.
The fuel flow gain I used is a below what the old fleet model would have been, but way above what the VL writers programmed. I mean really, it shouldn't take 30 seconds to spool to an EPR of 2.20. I've seen enough videos on the net and have been watching these aircraft long enough to know those JT-8D's spool up a hell of a lot quicker than what VL set up for the plane.
