The above shot has nothing to do with my question
I am thinking about upgrading my machine to 1 Gb of RAM. Has anyone doent this and if so, have you noticed any improvement in FS performance?

Yep ram upgrades help in every aspect of FS. I run a gig of Corsair Platinum XMS memory. Well worth the cost IMO

They are all in the sky LOL. Yea man, 1gb will be a tremendous improvement, unless you have a really poor cpu/video card like my antique here anything 2ghz up and a good video card will really see an improvement.

Jimmi,
It depends on your system. I go to crucial.com to check prices as they allow you to enter the exact computer you have. I went from 1GB to 2GB and it was a wowing experience for me.

I upgraded to a gig of DDR typ ram from 512 SDR typ and seen a big diffrence from it.if your mother board will take both typs of ram like mine.NEVER try to mix the two togeather it would mean certain death to the computer or at least i know it would my motherboard.i threw that SDR in the trash.but looking on the bright side ram is cheaper nowa days than a good video card.so if your motherboard will handel it why not go for it.

The fastest way to upgrade your computer is to add memory to it. Doubling the memory from 512MB to 1GB is a BIG leap in system performance. Why? Well, as you run out of memory, the system starts to use the hard drive for virtual memory, and that is super SLOW compared to memory chips!

Im not seeing a big difference
Im am by no means a computer hardware expert, but I think it may have something to do with the fact my sysetm uses RDRAM(rambus) memory. ANyone know if this is the case?

Ok nathan, next question, does your dell have a video card or is it using built in video. A 2.53ghz P4 should run FS2004 pretty decent with a gig of ram. There has to be a setting set wrong somewhere making a bottle neck.

Nevermind, I am assuming you have a Dell 8250, with 9700 Pro Video Card, there must be a Bios setting in memory timings or graphics set wrong or not optimzed for use with FS.I am thinking you should be in 30-40 fps with most of the eye candy turned on. Anybody else confer or disagree with this??

I am luck to get 15 with default scenery, default aircraft, minimal weather, and shadows turned off. To top it al off, my wife is mad that I spent $250 and didnt get the desired result. Might it have to do with the mobo only supporting 4X AGP?

No there is a setting off somewhere AGP aperature, maybe it could be your virtual memory sttings in windows, I am getting 20-25 fps with my daughters PC 1GHZ P3 512MB RAM, GEFORCE2 at above basic levels. With DVA Aircraft.

Well I run with 2gig of ram and have never looked back. I tax the heck out of MSFS with PMDG, ASVE, FS2Crew and on line most of the time on SB3/Vatsim. Runs pretty well with a Nvidia 7800 but RAM really makes the difference. Haven't seen a whole lot of improvement above 1gig though.
