Duno...its acting up and it really gets me poed...whenever I try to put on A/P and say climb to 11,000 with a VS of 2,000. (Or however u would say it) Well...it seems as if the autopilot has no effect on the airplane at all because instead of going to +2,000VC it dips down to -2000 and keeps going down as if i had never turned on the A/P. This is the Boeing 737-800 downloaded from this website. Yes, im sure my A/P is on...and the altimeter is also correct (I think) so what could be causing such an aggravating problem? It does this every time with any altitude or VS i put in but the wing leveler does work.

A few obvious questions. But the only dumb questions are those not asked. First, the freeware aircraft behave totally different than the payware ones. So, with that in mind, you say you have the autopilot set to "ON". After takeoff do you set the following AP selections to "ON" also:
1. Autothrottle?
2. Airspeed Hold (IAS mode and not Mach Number)?
3. Altitude Hold?
4. V/S?
5. Flight Director? (I don't think this is in the freeware one)
Turning on the Autopilot does not automatically turn on those modes. They have to be selected separately AFTER you have turned on your Autopilot.

In the EMB-120 for example, you click on the AP button and set the 11,000 and 2000 fpm but you have to click on the Altitude button for it to activate...

Yes. This happens to me on the fleet 738. For some reason, when A/P is engaged, the plane drops about 1,000 feet and then rights itself and continues climbing. Very annoying. I don't have an answer this question but I do know the problem exists. One of the reasons why I bought the PMDG 738 in the first place.

I never did get the fleet 738 to work for me - when I first joined and I installed it, it would lock up flight sim - only when I chose the 738 - so I bought the PMDG 738 - I'm glad it did though, I got a great payware bird out of it!

In FS9 when you activate the autopilot with the Flight Director on, it will take the current state and lock it in until you change other parameters like vertical climb rate. Be certain that the aircraft is stable and trimmed with gear up, flaps up and steady rate of climb before engaging the autopilot. To get it to climb to selected ALT you will need to set a VS on the panel.

Unfortunately, this does happen with the default 738 when you engage the autopilot. I don't know why, but I also get that annoying dip in altitude when engaging the altitude hold. There is no way to fix it totally, but I have found a way to minimize the effect. When you engage the altitude hold, pull back significantly on the yoke or joystick and it will not dip nearly as much. Then, just push the yoke back in slowly as the autopilot starts to take control. Also, I have found that this phenomenon only happens on the first flight after starting FS. If you don't shut FS down, any subsequent flights will not have this problem.
