Hey all, this whole subject makes me dizzy! But my the only thing on my Christmas list this year is a video card!!!
So here's my computer:
free memory- 124 GB
RAM-512MB
Processor-athlon xp 3200+ 2199mhz
current card- VIA/s3g unichrome igp 64mb
Whats the best bet for me? I have video problems often...screen freezes and have to reboot. The delta 757 and 767 i can taxi only 20 ft before the crash happens.
Thx for the heelp!

How much are you looking to spend? We need to know that before we can help you with anything. Also, do you have a PCI-Express slot on your motherboard, or is it an AGP slot?

First of all, I'd try to get another 512 of RAM, that will do wonders for you. As for a video card, I'm assuming from your current video card and your processor that you have an AGP slot. If you have any documentation for your computer it should say somewhere like "graphics, AGP 4X" or "AGP 8X." If you don't see anything let me know and I'll think of something else. So anway, I'd go with a GeForce 6600, I think that is the best bet for your price range. Go to pricewatch.com, there are about ten different versions from $120-$200. I would pick whichever model is at your price threshold. As of 8 pm hawaii time sunday, the GeForce FX 6600 AGP 8X 256mb is $217 with free shipping. That would be a good choice imho!

Look for a 6600GT. The GT version uses GDDR3 as opposed to GDDR2 in the other 6600/6800 models. You might be able to find a deal on 6800 GT, with the new 7800's out. I would suggest looking at the EVGA brand.

Adding to an old thread here...I am also thinking of getting a 6600GT card, and I have the Athlon XP3400 with 1 Gig of RAM and currently a GeForce 5200 (128 RAM) video card. Does anyone know if getting the new card will make a decent difference in my frame rates, or is it "just for looks"?

Well Tim, The rule of thumb here especially with technology constantly updating itself and hardware "becoming old after a few months" is knowing what to look at in terms of having a good uninterrupted flight.
It also depends on your motherboard support.
1. Memory should at least be 1GB and perferrably 2GB - which you have at least.
2. Your Hard Drive should be big enough so that you never break the 50-60% space rule. In other words, if you have a 200GB Hard Drive, you should in general never exceed capacity of 80GB to 100GB. If you do you run the risk of clogging the hard drive and its ability to function at 100%.
3. What you are asking about, Tim, is the Video Card. It depends on your motherboard and what it can support but recommend a video card with at least 256MB memory DDR3 which is what was suggested by Aaron and Bill. It should be cheaper now as technology advances in the video card industry. There are many choices these days.
4. Processor Power should be P4 3.2Ghz with HTT and greater OR AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 1GHz FSB or greater. The AMD processor is the better choice for gamers.
My main area is to increase memory and the processor power and 2 & 3 are fine. Your choice Tim is to go with the 6600 as suggested or look around as you can get a better card at better price. Maybe.
This was also for those not sure what type of system to run FS9.
Hope this helps you or others,
Sean

I'm a little late for x-mas, but buy more memory not a video card. 512MB is not enough. You need at least 1 gig. Lack of memory is what is freezing up your system / giving you very low frame rates. FS9 uses more processor / board memory than video memory. Caution, with 64 bit system you must use matched DDR memeory. Check with your equipment manufacturer.
