Hello Gentlemen,
I managed to stumble upon on a McDonnel Douglas "Super 80" released by Flight1 and Cool Sky recently. It is,in my opinion, a very detailed rendition of an old bird. I really enjoy it. The problem that I'm having is that FS2004 crashes with an error message that says: "Your computer has ran out of virtual memory, FS2004 will now shut down." The error message also suggest that I purge my hard disk of unused files.
Here is what I have done thus far: I purged my hard drive of all items unused. I have also defraged my drive. The hard drive is now 75% free. I have ample room for virtual memory, yet the error message continues.
I've also turned control of virtual memory to Windows XP. Earlier I had gone in configured my own virtual memory settings, but FS2004 still crashed. Understand that FS2004 will only do this with the new "Super 80" I've just purchased. It will not crash with any other aircraft. Technical support from the vendor was: "This is the first time we've heard of this problem with the super 80, let us know if you find the problem.
Any ideas guys? I've just paid $34.00 for this aircraft and can only fly it for a few miles! LOL I'm desperate for ideas. Thanks.

What do you have for board memory (RAM)? You certainly have plenty of hard drive space. I have 120GB and have filled only 30GB so far. You can quickly run out of memory when running FS with additional addons like FSNav, Active Sky, etc...

i got the same problem when using IR Track with Vector Expansion, FS Nav and while switching rapidly between views. Try installing a version without virtual cockpit and try it again.

there is a great tool from OO that defrags your HDD and phsically moves all the files to the beginning. This is the old defrag method that W95/98 did. The built in defrag only groups the data together, it doesn't physically relocated it to the beginning of the drive. I think the program is called O&O defrag. There is a temporary trial I believe but you have to register the full version.

Keep one thing in mind guys; all you need is 4GB of combined physical and virtual memory - no 32-bit chip can access more memory than that at one time.
Cheers!

I'll go along with Andrew, increase your page file size. I had all sorts of trouble with FS crashing my system when I first started using this new(er) system. The DF727 would crash it everytime, and most of the stock airliners would crash it soon after departure. Even the fleet installer 727 crashed it.
I did at least a half dozen tricks to get it to stop. Increasing the page file size was one of the tricks I used. It's also overclocked; the ram bus, AGP buss, and the CPU. I loosened up my scenery settings a bit, and changed my screen resolution to 16 bit at 1024x768.
I haven't had a crash since early December.
