I am new to the FSINN I read the manuel and still got problems. I first installed copilot followed by FSInn, installtion went smooth, I have been able to open up the FSinn, but when I go to hit the button to connect to the server, I get a ding sound follow by a message saying something about other instances are running, please restart FS. I have made sure all the information I've inputed into the setttings are correct. I have even used the toolkit to correct any problems, however there were none.
I was looking at another thread posted in here FSInn Issues or something like that, I still have my squak box installed on my hardrive, could that cause the problem that I am facing?
Josh Calkins
Oh my operating system if it helps:
WINXP, Pent 4, Norton security, cable.

Squawkbox installation should have nothing to do with it.
Correct me if I am wrong but with the newest FSINN version don't you only have to install FSINN and it will show Copilot on the toolbar. Maybe you are opening up an older version with copilot and a new version with fsinn.
I am no pro at FSINN and I was lucky to make it work for me on initial install but this was just a thought.

Copilot is the program that you open when you want to run FSInn inside FS. It should come built in with the FSInn download.

Ok, still getting same message after unistalling both FSinn and copilot. I reinstalled only FSInn, (turns out copilot is already in there). Could programs such as active camera be the instances that are running? or is it other instances of FS are running.

Ok, can someone explain how to setup voice, I went through the setup and put in the data under VATSIM and have the WL checked. What key must be presssed in order to push to talk?
Josh
Other than that I loved using the FSInn, I don't think weather was working properly, but still weather was great, changed from lite clouds to heavy.

Josh,
If you got as far as setting up the voice under VATSIM, then you were only one more step away. Look at this screenshot from the Control panel and you can see where you assign your own PTT button here. Either from your joystick or keyboard.
Hope this helps

Alrighty Thanks Vince, I will give a shot on friday afternoon. Thanks for the help Hopefully that solves the last of my issue with vatsim. For weather, to actual snow, rain, etc, I need to be selected under the FSInn weather key in the control panel right?

Alrighty I did the settings, Had no ATC so not 100% possitive, but I hit the button that I assigned for voice and got a buzzer similar to the squak box when not connected to ATC. Only problem is the peer to peer is not connecting, so I can't talk to them. Any advice on that?
Oh the weather was GREAT, was flying into SLC, had rain first then snow, and temps at freezing. It does take a hit at the frames as I notice when landing, couple of periods of trying to fresh the screen, but not bad.

OK, you're getting there. The reason you got the buzzer is because there was no ATC on your freq. You have to be on a "live" freq or the buzzer will warn you that you are not transmitting to anyone.
Do not use peer to peer-- that has nothing to do with ATC-- it is used when you are involved in formation flying.
Yes the weather feature is nice. Remember the frame killer on weather is cloud coverage. Keep your weather settings (clouds, visibilty settings, etc) as low as you can stand it and that will improve your FPS. Good Luck

Oh BTW Josh,
Are you using the smaller cloud texture sets available from around the net? If not, you need to get those

I am using what ever came with the FS and FSInn. SO you don't need the PEer to Peer to talk to other pilots on the network?

Josh,
If you are using the FS default cloud textures, you are missing out on a far better alternative for improving your FPS. Go this this site, read it thoroughly and download the cloud program. You may want to take advantage of other stuff, too. It's all freeware developed by Chris Willis.
http://fsw.simflight.com/FSWdownload.html
If you are using FSInn to fly on VATSIM -you do not need any additional voice program or any peer to peer connection.
Also FSInn does NOT provide you with any textures; they are only providing weather data to your FS for generation by your own FS textures. Good Luck

Ok, I got the ALternatice cloud one, for better fps. I am reading it and doesn't sound like it is something I would like to see while flying, But I'll give it a shot, worse comes to worse, I can always unistall it.
Well I got a flight to MCO I need to work on.

I just got the voice to work, it works a bit weird, have to hear a tone before talking then a tone after you finish talking, but it works, Vince do you know how to turn up the voice for receiveing from ATC, it was a bit weak to level of the volume of their voices. Other than everything is running smoothly, thanks for all the help.

Ok new problem I am encountering besides the echoing of the freq voices. I notice that when the airport is pack, the fps drops dramaticly, it literally was 0fps. Is there a way to get the realistic weather, and still use squakbox?

Thanks, Vince, Got the e-mail. made some decisions, but in the meantime. Can I still run FSINN weather, yet still use squakbox? Of course FSINN won't be connected to the VATSIM network.

Short answer...no.
Joshua, if you want to run Squawkbox and have really nice weather generated in a freeware program..here is what I recommend you do.
Go to this website and download the free weather FS Metar weather program. Just make sure you fire up the program when you are sitting at your gate..then load up Squawkbox 3 and off you go. IMHO the FS Metar program is probably the best of what is out there right now. Good Luck

Yeah Vince I did that and I think I messed that pops up saying the other stuff is using the FSUpic, and something about register, But no generation of weather. I followed the manuel for installation. Do you need the payware version of the FSUPIC?

Josh,
The readme states you do NOT need a registered FSUIPC and it gives you the needed codes for registering this program with FSUIPC. Have you done that? There is also another possible error in the FSUPIC ini file. This is from the site's FAQ page:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. I Install FSMetar but i can't see weather changes in FS2004
A. Ensure you have the following lines in your FSUIPC.ini
ClearWeatherDynamics=Yes
OwnWeatherChanges=Yes
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If after you follow all the program's readme and install procedures-- and it doesn't work, then I can only recommend you contact FSMetar for support. Sorry, but I never had any issues with it. Good Luck
