Today is it. Today I'm swapping my 400FSB, Pentium 4 2.2Ghz motherboard and processor for a socket 939, AMD 64X2 3800+, 2000MHz FSB processor and MB. I'm keeping for now my AGP8x Radeon 9600 256MB video card. I really hope I can finally break out from the 6-7 FPS I've been getting in ATL and SEA (2-3 FPS at LGA and JFK)
Of course, this is was after I re-installed FS9.1, and with most sliders to the right, 100% traffic, PMDG 737 or LDS767, all FS-Genesis terrains, and active weather running (on a second machine)
From what I've gather on-line, FS9 is more CPU limited than video card limited, so I'm trying this to see.

I am excited to hear what kind of FPS you are getting on the new machine.
Keep us posted,

Smart move - going to the AMD - I upgraded to a Pent IV 3.5 Ghz, but have to live with 800 Mhz FSB - wish I had gone AMD. I do ok with FPS though.

Grumble, grumble, grumble. I'm in the midst of re-installing WinXp - again. WinXp didn't like the brain change and no amount of telling it to repair itself worked. So a new, fresh install. Followed be a new fresh install of FS9 / 9.1
CRAP!!! (unless someone out there has a suggestion for just reusing my existing installation of FS9 on the drive after I ... never mind. I need to regain the registry entries for the PMDG / Reality XP/ LevelD etc software ....)

Reinstall everything. It'll better utilize the new setup. You may get a punch in the face later for having such an awesome puter.

Update. With a fresh install of FS9, all sliders to the right, but without Ultimate traffic, or my RealityXP guages, I'm hitting 30FPS. Of course, when I ran this, I forgot to shut down a program that was using both CPUs to do some modal analysis in the background. Now to get my payware aircraft and full fledge traffic files and see what it does.
Then to see if I can make it to my first flyin...

New benchmark: with all sliders to the right, 100% traffic ( military, Ultimate GA, Ultimate Traffic, Cargo airlines, etc), all FS-Genesis terrains, Ultimate terrain, active weather running (on a second machine), A cessna 172 out of Boeing Field in Seattle now stays maxed out at 30FPS, whereas the best I could do with my previous MB and processor was 7FPS. Now to try a 737-700 run from CVG to LGA and see what happens in New York with the PMDG 737

The PMDG 737 gives a bit of a frame hit. I hovered around 19FPS at CVG and 15FPS in the New York area. For a while I was baffled by a constant stutter every second, on the second, in the New York area, but that disappeared when I shut of the traffic toolbox SDK's monitor. All in all, I think it was a good choice for upgrading my system for relatively little $$. I also ended up with a spare MB and processor which I can use to build a ASV and AI smooth server.
