Can someone please tell me why my self-made AthlonXP 1600+
1.4GHZ with 133MHZ fsb
NVIDIA RIVA TNT 32MB SDRAM AGP graphics
512MB DDR2100
out performs my Dell Pentium 4
2.8GHZ with 533MHZ fsb
Onboard Intel Extreme 64MB DDR graphics
512MB DDR2700
in FS frame rates? The Athon should be slower, No?

Typically Athlon is better for gaming. (My Opinion)

I heard somewhere that Athlon CPUs have better architecture, would this be right?

Even though the Athlon is better for gaming IMO, you can't compare one to a P4 with twice the clock speed.

Apparently that didn't answer your question. I read it as "would" instead of "why"
To answer your question properly (doh) I have no clue.

In a word - onboard graphics. ICK.
The whole Intel vs. AMD argument is silly - there is nothing in either Intel or AMD's architecture that makes them "better" for one particular implementation or another. If you believe that AMD chips are better for games, I have a 2.9Ghz/900FSB P4 that I'd like to stack up against any AMD chip, for performance or price. Which is not to say that Intel is better, either. It's all a price vs. performance thing.
If anyone can give me a quantifiable, repeatable piece of proof that there's anything in the AMD architecture that makes them "better" for games, you can come by my place and get a free meal (seared tuna, 1lb porterhouse, broiled grouper, etc.) with the best bottle of wine in my closet, on me. (You provide the airfare.)
Get a real video card. You won't regret it.

What is the view on Intel Celeron chips. I know they are cheaper and I think they are slower than their Pentium counterparts. Is this just me or are they really discount chips?

Stay away from the Celeron. The lack of cache on the chip absolutely cripples performance. You're far better off getting an AMD chip if price is a major consideration.
Cheers!
