I am already a captain of a CRJ-200. What promotion am I trying to get now? I have been trying to test for other aircraft but have trouble on the tests.

Jared,
What aircraft do you want to fly? I started in the B738 and wanted to fly overseas, so I got a 763 rating. I tried out the 727 and loved it so I switched programs and became a captain in the 727. I've not gotten a new aircraft rating since, because I am happy with what I am flying in.
The choice is really yours!

I like the MD-88 for starters, then I would like to go to heavy aircraft when I get better at it.

Another question. Since we are going to have to do a check ride, is it okay to fly the aircraft and just not file a PIREP? I mean online using our callsign?

Great - what I would do then is download the MD-88 fleet aircraft, and the MD-88 manual and go fly it around - you can't PIREP the flight but you can get a feel for the airplane and see if you like it. Get used to the airplane - take it for a trip or two. study the books, take the test - don't worry if you don't pass it the first time - as many have said before, they flunked the test several times before making a passing score - in the end if you have persistence, you WILL prevail!
You'll need to take an ACARS checkride too, so I'd recommend start using ACARS to get used to it when you fly your CRJ. Then you'll take the MD88 up on a checkride in ACARS when you go for the program switch.
Once you're in the MD88 aircraft, you can work towards getting a stage 3 rating - the B763 is a great overseas airplane - I fly to Germany in it with no problems. You'll need to be a Stage 3 pilot before you can get a Stage 4 rating, so if you want to fly, say the MD11 or the B777, then you will have to move to stage 3 eventually.
Enjoy the trip towards your dreams and remember - the flight academy is going to be available soon and pilots will be able to learn quite a bit of flying techniques and eventually we hope to offer transition courses so you can enter the course for say, the MD88 and come out of it as a first officer in the program (but that is still a ways off in the distance)

Jared,
You can fly any airplane you want - even the concorde, but you can't PIREP them without the rating. I don't see where there would be a problem flying them online with your callsign either. Lots of people use Delta callsigns and aren't even DVA pilots.
