Hi all. Please help!! I have been at this for 4 hours now and have run out of options. All of a sudden my FS 2004 will not run anymore. I click on my icon and nothing happens. I cannot uninstall it as it says "not repsonding". I cannot add/remove, I cannot delete the FS 9 folder--I don't know what else to do at this point. It all started with an error saying my terrain.cfg file and scenery.cfg files were missing or damaged and I had to reinstall FS 2004. I ran virus scan, ad-aware and all that and everything is fine.
I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions at this point. I simply cannot get into FS 2004 any longer and can't delete-what are my options? The only option I get is to permanently delete my entire FS 9 folder-that will remove all files and all aircraft and files I have downloaded over the past year and a half-correct?
Any help from anyone on this will be greatly appreciated as I am permenantly "grounded!"
Thanks in advance

Hmm.. Try getting a no-cd crack (avsim or something) and try changing the fs9.exe with that. Also you know All Programs>Microsoft Games> something like "Restore Defaults" and "Safe Mode" try those.

what I would do Erik, is copy your aircraft file and cut and paste it somewhere, where you know it is at, then delete all of the flight simulator files and re-install it again and then place the old aircraft folder in place of the new one and it should work if not you can email me at silly_bear4u@yahoo.com and we will get it worked out

We do not support the non-cd crack. Please refrain from mentioning it here.
Try reinstalling also. It will just copy over your existing files.

a forced check disk wouldn't hurt before trying to reinstall. I've had programs stop running before because of a drive issue.

also, you may verywell have a ton of Spyware/Malware in your system that is eating up your CPU resources...I suggest Xoftspy to get rid of them, nothing else even comes close to Xoftspy.
That has been my experience with having the same issue as you have.

Joe,
Even though I ran spybot and adaware and it found a couple of things and it got rid of them-you still recommend I use Xoftspy? Is it free? I will check it out and try it.
Thanks for all responses as I'm sure you can tell it is rather frusterating!!
Thanks again

Erik,
By now, it's probably too late, but before you do anything to your FS9 folder (other than scan it for viruses and other malicious software) go into C:\Documents and Settings\(~your windows profile name here~)\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9 and delete FS9.cfg. Then try to restart FS. It will create a new FS9.cfg and restore everything to default settings, but you won't lose your files.

Thanks again for all your help--I ended up backing up my aircraft folder and completely uninstalling FS9 and re-installing it again. Appears to be working fine at this point. Something along the way got corrupted.
Back to flying again!!

I think you might have had good luck with what Matt was saying. You can either do that, or go to your Start menu, programs, microsoft games, FS2004, and click RESTORE defaults. This has worked 100% of the time for me when I was having some troubles. And when you start editing FDEs or making stuff in FS2004 it's bound to screw something up. If this ever happens again try doing this.
