Was flying a week ago when a strange and reeeeeeally irritating noise appeared. It's kind of mechanical sounding and undulates in volume. It's even there when I hit Q to turn the sound off. I tried un-installing/re-installing the aircraft and the noise stopped. I just landed in ATL and as I was taxiing in, noticed it had returned... Does anyone have any idea what it could be? It's the most irritating noise and as I said, won't even go away if I turn the sim sound off.
Cheers
Nick.

Normally, as soon as you set the parking brakes, it starts up. Honestly, I'm not sure if there is a fix for it.

Is it kind of a low-pitched hum? If so, that's the brakes, the older version in the Fleet Installer did that as well and I never figured out how to get rid of it--I put the brakes on, off, wiggled my toe brakes around, nothing fixed it.

Yeah it's sort of a low hum, but in waves of volume... I had it going for my entire MD-88 checkride...it drove me up the wall. After that I did the un-install/re-install, but now it's back.

You may want to try Lonny Payne's panel (sp?) instead. Of course, if you plan to fly the MD-88 often you can always go with payware.

Does anyone elses MD-88 make a loud buzz when you are on AP and it makes either a turn or levels off. The warning panel has a light or two flash and it makes a buzzing noise. I have gotten used to it but wasn't sure if it was supposed to be there or not.

That loud buzz is the stabilizer trim wheel moving. I'm not sure why the light flashes, some aircraft have a "STAB OUT OF TRIM" light to indicate conditions with the stab trim, but I've noticed that as well.

It's a shame because it's a very decent panel, but I nearly threw my computer out of window the other day.. I just can't fly it with that noise.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a freeware MD 88 panel? I have searched Flighsim.com, and Avsim.com, but to no avail. There was one on Flightsim.com, but it was crap.

there's a fix for that noise if it's the brakes. I believe there is a file called "newbrake" in the file section to replace the default brake sound in fs9.

Where can you get the Payne panel? Is it freeware? And if anyone has a documented fix for the noise (and it occurs in the Fleet Installer) please file an issue in the issue tracker.
Cheers!

I've noticed that on numerous panels. I always just ditched the brake noise all together, the MD-88/90 panel is excellent! why throw the whole thing away for one gauge? Just jump in the panel.cfg (after a backup of course) and erase the file name or line with [ HGHB_BRAKE_SOUND.gau ]. (Make sure the gauge numbers are in order if you delete the whole line). Working BGL Compiling to CFG is a relief because Microsoft made their software for CFG VERY forgiving. If it sees a line like [ gauge12= 0,0,10,10 ] it will just skip it. Hope this doesn't confuse you more than it helps.
