My computer just died 30 minutes ago. Believe it or not, I was backing up important files when it happened.
Now, the PC won't even boot up. Energy is there, but the BIOS thing when you turn it on won't show up. The screen is black. I have not installed or unninstalled anything lately. This just happened suddenly.
What can it be? Motherboard problem? Hard drive problem? Anyone had this before or know how to solve it?
I'm so screwed up, because I need the files to study for the damned IB exams. I can't believe this just happened, is almost impossible.
Thanx. I'm in shock right now

I believe you may have to start the recovery console from the windows disk and do the commands fixmbr and fixboot. Im trying to talk to you on MSN right now

So can you get into the BIOS?
Those are stored on the Mother board so if you can't thats the problem,
If not then try to use the recovery console from the window's Disk, If that fails I would slave the hard drive to a working computer to take off the important files

If the BIOS isn't showing up, it could be the video card, or memory or some other issue. Is the computer beeping at all?
If you are good with computers or know someone who is, you can take your hard drive out of your broken PC and install it as a secondary drive on a working PC and then you can access the hard drive and pull the files off of it. You could also use one of those USB external hard drive enclosures and plug it into that as well. I don't recommend doing this yourself unless you know what you're doing though...

Well, yesterday I ran a couple of tests with the help of a friend. All of them failed. We concluded that this could be a problem with the power source (which i doubt) or the motherboard is screwed up.
When I turn the CPU on, it will NOT beep like it always does. You can hear the hard drive trying to run, but it stops 2 seconds after turning the CPU on, and there it dies. The BIOS will NOT boot up either, I cannot access anything.
Thank God the hard drive seems to be working though, because at least you can hear it running. Today in the afternoon I'll take it to a professional, and see what the guy can do.
Friends are helping me out regarding the studying thing. They also have some of my files, and I have a lot of printed papers, so that should do for now.
I ended up laughing at this matter instead of having a heart attack haha, because I was reading Murphy's Rules last night, and one of them is: "The computer will fail always when you need it the most"
I'll let ya know if this is solved, or if I'll finally have the chance of building a new PC

OK so I got a answer on my computer's problem.
Seems that I blew up the processor it was an old P4 1.8ghz, but since I have been using the PC mostly for AutoCAD, Photoshop, Limewire and Media Player, well you can imagine, it totatlly fried.
Bad news is I just lost all my IB files on the HD (I had backed some of them up on Gmail anyway, just a matter of re-downloading), and I lost all of my FS9 screenshots NOOOOOooooooo...
Good part: motherboard is not damaged, so Ill just replace the processor, and I'll be able to go back to flying after exams. Just wanted to let ya know.
Thanks for the help guys!
