Hello,
I've already posted this question on Vatsim, but you guys seem really switched on when it comes to tech stuff, so I thought I'd post it here too...
I've been flying a lot of hours on Vatsim recently, and today I've discovered that I can no longer receive voice in SB3, in either Standalone or Module mode. This problem seems to have occured to newbies in the past, but not suddenly overnight to people who have used Vatsim for a while. (I have found no solution in the forums)
The problem is this - I tune to an ATC, whatever frequency it might be, and the window says down the bottom : "Transmitting on 120.50 [Voice + Text]", which is all totally normal. However, the transponder indicates that there is no voice. The ON light is not illuminated, nor is the Rx.
The only exception to this rule is if I transmit, the Tx light does illuminate. I am however not sure if any controllers can hear me because everyone assumes that since I can transmit, I should be able to receive.
Rest assured I have reinstalled FSUIPC, and SB3, and checked my entire hardware configuration. My headset uses audio jacks and is not reliant on USB drivers (because it plugs directly into the sound card). I am able to hear other sounds both in Windows and Flight Simulator as normal. My microphone is working if I record and playback something in sound recorder for example.
I have tried logging onto almost all servers on the Vatsim network with the same result. Speaking with one controller at Sydney (Australia) through text, he indicated that nobody else is having this problem at the moment which indicated that the problem was with my machine. But here comes the kicker :
I know other people have reported this problem (but nobody has given a solution), but it seems that I'm the only one that *CAN* talk to controllers, regardless of what server I or they are connected to, which indicates to me that it is not a firewall issue on my machine, but rather some sort of weird compatability problem between my SB3 install and the Vatsim servers. My SB3 install is 3.0.4, Using Flight Sim 9, Netcomm NB1300+4 modem router.
It seems I cannot talk to any ATC on OCEANIA, UK-1, or EUROPE-CE, but can talk to ATC on EUROPE-N, EUROPE-CW, and sometimes USA-W (but sometimes not USA-W). I haven't managed to test any others. It doesn't matter if I'm connected to OCEANIA, UK-1, or USA-S .. I still cannot receive the same ATC. Maybe the servers are a co-incidence.
Any thoughts would be REALLY appreciated. I hate flying with text, especially when I'm using the keyboard to fly. (Besides, I want to participate in the KIND Indy500 fly-in!... but that doesn't look likely now). Maybe next year. Smile
Thanks in advance.
Lloyd
