Whatever you decide, don't even think about buying something this month until the Conroes come out and prices for everything AMD (and everything Pentium 4) drop through the floor.
Cheers!

What is the Conroes?
Replacing the MB and CPU may be down the road aways and I will probably just change out my current CPU for now. But, if prices for current CPU's fall that would be a good time to go hi-end for a new MB and CPU.

New CPU's are about to be released Mike.....all signs and trends indicate that that in a few months its gonna be like shopping at wal-mart...rollin back them prices...there was a thread here that linked to an article about this and Intel is also very close to releasing something very new and ground breaking.....A lot of stuff that is very high priced right now will fall to about 20% - 50% of what the current cost is on most current CPU's,same with the mother boards and other stuff....save your money and continue to build a little nest egg for your upgrade..
Those new CPU's that Luke just mentioned from AMD are gonna be sweet...outta my price range, but the top of the line stuff thats out now will become very affordable, very soon...

Oh yeah.. it's going to be difficult to choose the next CPU for Vista / FSX .. Intel Conroes vs. AMD AM2
I think I'm going to stay on the 939 socket for now

The currents AMD64+, AMD64 X2 and AMD Semprons... I know I'll not have the money to change CPU / Mobo / Memory to use a Conroe or AM2

I am about to build myself my next computer, because well mine was submerged in 6 inches of water for five days and almost every component in it is finished. The one i have spec'ed out has the AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ and my mobo is ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe Socket 939 ATI CrossFire Radeon XPRESS 3200 ATX. I am not trying to go all out and totally blow away myself but I hope to go get a system that will be a very good priced and well worth machine. I do belive that Vista will be able to run on your machine and hopefully Microsoft won't make that OS unable to run on all but the best machines. I think that the dual processors will serve you very well in the long run. Socket 939 is what the dual processors run on. Unfortunatly computers are being outdone every day with new techonology being produced every day. So just buy a good system and it should work for a good few years.

That's the exact same mobo I'm considering at this point.
I'm going to wait several more months and see what CPU prices do. In the mean time I'll be replacing my current CPU with the AMD 3200+ Barton core CPU.
