Taxiing in ATL, I get substantial hits on my FPS when I'm looking at the concourses and the rich buildings. When i pan to the south (very little buildings) it smooths out considerably.
My question is what do I need to do to remedy this.
I have a P4 3.4ghz 800FSB 2mb Cache HT, EVGA 7800 GT w/256mb DDR3 RAM, 3gb of RAM, and 10,000 RPM hard drive. I recently went from 1-3gb of RAM and thought that would make up the difference. It does a little but I still find the big problems like the fore mentioned to be there.
Anyone want to take a stab at this ?

There is obviously some sort of bottle neck in your setup somewhere if this happens with as nice a system as yours. You could always start with the display sliders to the left and make minute changes and document the effects. Sometimes the video driver can cause issues as well. I have had to actually use an older driver to get better results. If you would like to package the system up and send it too me, I would be happy to use it...um test it for 6 months or so. There would of course be no charge to you.

Hi Chris, I had a similar prob. I´ve had my FS9 in the comp( very similar system, only 2gb RAM, xfx7800gtx)for about 1 1/2years and my fps were in the garbage did 15 ,16 at the most.
I went ahead and did a full uninstal, and reinstall, and the prob seems to have gone away Now it is going from 30,up to 70 fps depending on the scenery.
my 2 cents, Hope it helps ( my computer knowledge is very limited)
Somebody who is more into, comps will surely chime inn.
Cheers , have a good one.

I have recently did a dump and install of FS and all of my add-ons. I have noticed a dramatic change in performance for the better.. I am the same however, limited PC knowledge.

Somehow, it's pretty normal to have stutters when taxing / being a few miles around KATL in FS9.
I don't know what Microsoft did, but they caused FS to have really bad stutters within KATL. Man, even with lower settings, and even when I get 30 FPS almost everywhere, I get 15 frames when on the ground at ATL, flying default cessna's...

I've had the same problem after I hit the brakes after a landing.

I'd look at what else is running on the computer at the time. The task manager can help you identify things running in the background that are hogging resources. I also reboot everytime before I start up FS9 to clean out everything.
Your system seems well equipped to handle FS9 in all its glory. What resolution are you running? I backed off mine to 1024x768 because I run it in a window anyway and that helped smooth things a bit, albeit at a loss of a bit better visuals.
I've also found a full reinstall helps too every once in a while.

I just landed in KATL and it was horiible FPS--I had 4!!! It wa so bad i ran off the end of runway?? system was so slow-only happens in KATL to the point im not going to fly in/out of there anymkore-waste of time. I have a fast system as well and I should not have that low of frame rates--so your not alone.

Chris,
Not knowing how long FS has been on your computer, I will take a stab at it. Microsoft is notorious for not closing files properly all the time. I am looking at a complete re-install this weekend myself because known issues from a long and overly used version of FS are creeping up. It's a big undertaking and usually for me takes half a day but it really cleans up the game especially if you install and uninstall scenery and planes.

I did a complete reinstall, the aircraft are flyable at 15-19 FPS, just wish I had better frames, I do not know what else to do.

Hey kris do you know exactly what your processor is running at. I know you said it is a 3.4 Ghz P4, but it might not acutally be running at that, right click on My Computer and it should tell you what it is. Then try to see if you have you FPS set at unlimited. I have in other disscussions that if is at unlimited it can cause problems. If it still doesn't work then.......try not to look at the airport....sorry. I even when from a res of 1280x768x32 and go crapy fps and tried a switch to the 1280x1024x16 and for me it worked a little plus it looked a little detailed. GOOD LUCK!!!!

There is a 'sticky' post at AVSIM.COM all about tweaking your computer & FS. Go to AVSIM.COM, go to Forums, go to "MS Flight Simulator General Discussion Forum", then finally "MS Flight Simulator Tips and Tricks"
I'd post a link, but I wasn't able to.
