Hi All. As many of you know we are still having some growing pains with our new schedule mechanism. So we ask your continuing forebearance as we work through the issues. What we ask is that you use the schedule, even with it's flaws. We are working on those. We also want to you to still assume responsibility for your flight. There is one flight, QF009, that shows in the schedule as YMML-EGLL (Melbourne, Austrailia to London Heathrow). Non-stop, that flight is over 10,000 nm. The 772 and 744 have ranges exceeding 7000 nm, but not 10,000nm. So, although that flight is in the schedule, we all know that we don't have an aircraft in our inventory with the legs for a non-stop flight of that length operated as a normal passenger aircraft. This particular flight does have a stop in Singapore, but it is not readily apparent in the schedule. We know the schedule isn't operating on all thrusters at the moment, and we continue to refine the converter. Just make sure the aircraft you use can make the flight. If it can't, then find another flight that it will. And bear with us...

I guess a lot of people are trying to emulate Oliver's flight that he did a couple weeks ago.

3 Things.
1. Oliver knows there is a stop and got permission from Terry Eshenour to fly the flight without the stop in Singapore.
2. The Flight is around 9200nm (It is over 10,000 sm)
3. I used the PSS 777-200LR which has the legal range to make that flight (Range by Boeing, Maximum Range 9,420 nautical miles)
Oliver does no flight that is at risk for being rejected

Why don't we just use the real Delta schedule from their web site? Our schedule could then only contain the historic aircraft flights. It seems that would be easier for all involved, and less of a headache for those who update our schedule on this site. Just a thought that seems easier.

Steven,
The real world DL flight schedule changes constantly making it difficult to validate flight legs particularly when flight reports are submitted a few days later. I looked at the datafeed used to construct the current DVA schedule. There are some flights that are only valid for one day. Our schedule remains static for at least 7 days.
The use of our schedule database enables us to use the system to validate the flight. The pilot selects a flight from the same database used to validate it maiking it simple and straightforward. The use of the real world DL schedule requires reviewers to look up in the schedule the flight, which is time intensive particularly when reviewing 50 flight reports at a sitting.
Bear with us, we will work out the glitches in the weeks to come.

The new schedule database contains another error that I would ask your cooperation. Some flights have the same arriving as departing location. This resulted, I believe, when extracting the data of regional flights many of which retain the same flight number for the same equipment as it makes its rounds. Taking off and landing at the same airport is not considered a valid flight leg.
Finally, if you discover addtional glitches, please enter the specifics in the issue tracker topic #1447 that I opened. This will give clues as to oversights in the program script that needs attention.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

just out of curiosity, u say that the real world delta schedule changes too often, how about going through once a month and just changing our schedule to what theirs is.. then after a couple of months it should be trivial to keep them relateively in sync by just changing the changes.. if you know what i mean ?
oh and btw. the qantas spirit of sydney (i think) - 747-400 has made the real world non stop flight with about 6000lbs of fuel left on landing.... that was a publicity stunt by boeing.. but it still did it non stop

Charles,
Thank you for the suggestion. Technically we are receiving one data feed of DL's schedule for the next 30 days (October was received this morning). Within the schedule data there are flights that are changed throughout the month. Our schedule is updated every 7 - 14 days to reflect the changes. This is an attempt to be as close to real as reasonable. During the month, DL will continue to tweak and change their schedule as marketing and technical tactics. DVA's schedule is a snapshot of DL's real world schedule on the day it was published along with the projected changes for the next 30 days.
The task of keeping our schedule current was greatly reduced with access to Innovata's commercial data feed. Prior to that our schedule was updated every 3 months by optical scanning of DL's PDF schedules. As you might imagine it was a tedious task subject to many errors.

But yes, the task of keeping the schedule totally up to date is very difficult and I have no problem following our present schedule.
I feel Terry that updating it by that method is a great idea! It also keeps on a certain schedule knowing the flights won't change for that certain period of time.

Significantly. The Innovata feed I get will have different entries for the same flight number, and some flights have differing departure and arrival times depending on what day of the week or month. Additionally, as the seasons change you will see some destinations go in and out of service, or equipment types will change according to capacity.
Cheers!

It might be beneficial to have the latest date of the Innovata update appear on the schedule pages. That way, people browsing can see if somethings changed or been updated recently and it may prompt them to look for new flights that may have appeared. I'm not sure how hard this is to implement (or even if it is warranted given Luke's massive shopping list and priorities) but I thought I'd suggest it.

As an FYI, I have installed Build 111 and the October Innovata download. Many of these issues have been resolved, but I think the QF flight is still outstanding.

Luke,
Thanks for the updated schedule.
The QF flights 005 and 009 are repaired in so much as they are only the first leg from Austraila to Singapore. Flights to Europe interline in Singapore where various codeshare non-stops operate to major European airports.
The other issue of originate and arrive at same airport is resolved.

I am curious to know that status getting up-to-date QANTAS schedules. I thought I would try some code share flying in the B763 in Australia/Oceania. Lo and behold the DVA timetables listed no B763 flights and only a handful of A333 and B744 flights. I checked the official QANTAS website to find out how many B767 aircraft are in their fleet and I found out there are 29 B767-300ER aircraft in the fleet. So the DVA timetable does have all the QANTAS information. I understand the issue of getting schedule updates, etc. but is there a work-around identified by management so we can take full advantage of codeshare oppotunites?
Also, if I fly a codeshare flight on VATSIM do I use my DVA callsign or the QF c/s? Thanks.

There's an important distinction to be made. We *only* import and support partner airline flights that are Delta code shares. Not all QF flights are code shared by Delta, therefore they will not be imported. Another example of this that I've noticed lately are the CO flights across the Atlantic flown using a 757. Unless DL assigns a flight number to them and starts selling seats on these flights in real life, they will NOT be in our schedule or credited for hours/legs.
There are only three exceptions to this - Air France, Air Jamaica and AeroMexico. The first is a special partner airline that has had all its flights included since 2001. Air Jamaica already code shares all of its flights except two (so it was pretty simple to add those) and AM's schedule feed doesn't include proper code share data so we just import them all. Since there isn't a virtual AeroMexico that I've heard of and we have some great Latin American members, I'd be inclined to keep this going forward even if AM gets the schedule feed fixed.
Cheers!

Qantas ??
I don't see Qantas as member of the SkyTeam Alliance or a Delta worldwide partner. Qantas belong to OneWorld group... stupid question but why we have Qantas codeshares ? They were Delta partners before ?
