Hi guys... can I get some assistance from our PC guru's here please?
My internet speed has been acting up weird the last couple of weeks. Speed is waaaay too slow, or there's no response at all, even though the modem is working fine. Today I got tired of it, and called Tech Support. They ran a couple of tests remotely to my modem, and they said the modem is OK.
They advised me to run AntiVirus and AntiSpyware programs, because "spyware may be the reason why your speed is so slow".
Did so, ran Symantec Antivirus (that's all I have...) and XoftSpy. Both came out with nothing.
My question is, does anybody know what can be wrong here, or why is my conection so rare lately?
Do you guys know any other software more powerful than those two to catch spyware?
Tech specs:
Cable Modem at 256kb/sec
Motorola Surfboard Modem .
Thanks!

I've used two with great success. In order, the first is Spy Sweeper (http://www.webroot.com) and the second is Spyware Doctor (http://www.pctools.com). Both of these programs have caught numerous infections that were not caught after several scans by other programs including Symantec.

Are you behind a router? I have one that if I don't reset every 30 days or so, things start getting slow...
Also... try this for testing....

Hey guys sorry for the delay.
Alright, so the problem is getting worse and worse. Now I can barely load a webpage. I already ran 3 antispyware programs, and none of 'em has picked up anything (including those that you guys pointed).
I tried the same modem and same cables with mom's laptop, and the speed was excellent, and pretty stable. So I think there's a problem with my PC.
Right now I'm using my desktop PC, but I used a USB cable from the modem, instead of the Ethernet cable, and I run normal speeds again, BUT the connection is extremely unestable. I just can't figure out what's going on.
Glen, it's weird because I tried that SpeedTest thing you pointed me (thanks for that), and transfer rates and speed show as normal, while that page took over 5 minutes to finish loading
Thanks for the suggestions anyway, I'll keep trying to fix it. If not, well... Windows re-install is always fun to perform eh?...

You may have an issue with your network card or the slot it is plugged into. If it works ok using a USB port for network access I would consider picking up an inexpensive nic and trying it. I personally don't recommend using USB for a network connection as it will be in contention with all the other USB devices on the bus and may be the reason why it's unstable.
