I am running an AMD 3.0 with an ATI Radeon 9250 graphics card. I purchased 2 sticks of DDR2 memory- 1GB each. Installing only one of the modules everything works fine. When I added the second module I get a beautiful view of blue screen city. The manufacturer suggested I return the 2nd module. I did-they replaced it and when I loaded the second module the computer crashes with a Stop: OX0000008E error code and a "win32k.sys address BF801DA8 message.
Removing the second module and everything runs fine again. I do not know the cause...is it possible that 2GB is too much for the graphics card?

I'd validate the memory first: http://www.memtest.org/

If you have not already done so, take out the good stick and put the bad one in that same slot and try it. If that stick works, put the other into the second slot and try it. You may have a bad memory slot on your board.
Also, what kind of mother board are you running?

Rob- I have not yet done that logical idea of checking the slots but I will. Motherboard is an Asus A7V8X-X.

Make sure your memory is a 'matched' pair as well. Running dual channel with any ol' two sticks of RAM doesn't always work out. Even if they are exactly the same, purchasing them one at a time doesn't make them a 'matched' pair.

Ok--here is where I am at. Loading module #2 (the bad one) by itself causes the monitor to go to standby. I put module #1 back in and it works fine by itself.
I have 3 memory slots and #2 does not appear to work in any of them.
As far as BIOS updates...I have not a clue how to do that or what the necessary commands would be--

bios you need to update from the manufactures web site. if you purchased the computer stock and not custom built, you can go to the computers site (i.e. dell.com, hp.com....) and type in your computer model and the updates should appear for you. Make sure you update according to date especially if most current updates do not include the previous dowlnoads. Hope this helps!!!

Roger,
I may be misreading what you are saying, the memory you are testing needs to be tested in the first memory slot (either 1 or A depending on the manufacturer of the motherboard) If you are placing memory sticks in slot 2 (B) or 3 (C) without populating slot 1 (A) as well, your computer will not work.

Norm:
The tests were done with memory in the #1 slot. What I was referring to was testing with the second module and trying it in slots 2 and then 3 along with a module in slot #1.

I had the exact same problem, it turned out to be my motherboard that was about to die. I purchased a new ASUS motherboard and it has worked fine aver since with 2 sticks of 1 gig each.
