Hey all, was hoping to get some feedback on what is the best headset to get to use here. Have just started flying with DVA and looking to make th most of the experience. Also please include where you got the item from and approximate cost. Am willing to spend up to 125.00, but less if its worth it!
Thanks

I use a Sennheiser. A little pricey - $80 but very nice. Great sound and mike quality, comfortable for long sessions and is either 3.5mm plug or USB capable out of the box. Only draw back, and it is minor, is the boom mic is a little short and reachs just to the corner of the mouth.

I just use the USB headset designed for use with the Playstation 2 and games like SOCOM. It was like $20 at wal-mart and it works great. It even has it's own mute button on it.

Jerry, I use a David Clark H10 13.4. It's a real aviation headset that is plugged into my computer using a small, $20 adapter. The DC's are good because they double for when I go flying in real life, and you can't beat the realism it brings! Granted, it's going to cost a little more than $125.00, but if you look on EBay you can find some pretty good deals for not too much more. Also, if you fly in real life, you can get double use from it!

George,
I've done coast to coast with it on. No problems. The ear cups are soft with a felt like feel to them. Best part is you can hear what is going on around you without taking them off. Btw, there is an inline mic on/off switch and volume control.

Another great thing about getting a USB headset is it can be used as a second sound card... this is cool because you can just have your radio traffic come through the headset and all the airplane engine noise come through your PC speakers. I think that it adds a little extra to the realism, and is easier to hear ATC.
Just my $0.02 worth.

Dave, I have a USB headset and I hear all the noise including engines. Do you have a special adapter or setup to seperate the commo from the outside noise ? How is it used like a second sound card ? Happy New Year ! Clarke

Clarke,
To configure your headset for just ATC sound and not engine noise do the following:
Start flight-sim and launch squawkbox
In SB click Start, options, then the voice tab
At the bottom you'll see a box for hardware options with a couple of drop-down boxes in it.
Make sure your headset is selected in both (the input device should already be set this way)
NOTE: this only works with USB type headsets.
Hope this helps... if you have any more questions let me know.

Dave,
I'm trying to do the same thing--get only ATC through headset while engines come over speakers. I have a USB headset. I know about the voice tab on the SB Options page but I'm still at a loss for getting the engines etc through the speakers. Where does that get set up 'cause I don't see any instructions on how to do that. thanks.

Hey Rick,
Do you get the engine sound through your PC speakers now or just the headset? Or do you get both sounds through your headset?
Thanks,

Thanks everybody for the input, much appreciated. Have ordered mine with the gift card from my real world job, looking forward to its arrival and being able to communicate with ATC here.
Fly safe in the real world, and in the New Year!

I recently bought the $30 Logitech Headset, but can't get any response from it except by tapping the mike, which produces only a small blip on the test scale. My computer agrees I have it connected, and I'm pretty sure the headset is not defective. Anybody have any ideas? Thank you.
