I am considering the purchase of a new LCD 22" widescreen monitor. I'm worried that the cockpit display will be squashed like I've seen in so many cooler shots here.
I'm not sure of the aspect ratio, but I know it is not 4x5 as a regular monitor is. The native resolution is 1680 x 1050.
I don't seem to be able to find a 1024x768 22" monitor or even one that has ratios that are equivilent to a 4x5 ratio. I know that changing the native resolution can have less that desireable effects on the video quality.
The monitor I'm considering as a 1200 contrast ratio with a 5ms refresh rate.
Could someone advise on the cockpit display problems with a wide-screen monitor?

Michael, I have a 19 inch monitor, with a ATI Radeon 9600XT 256 MB video.
The video card allowes me to set a normal 4:5 ratio display or a widescreen anamorphic display, so I would think that the video card properties should set the tone for that. Not sure if I'm addressing your concern.
Salud!

Nice Unit so far, I will Post a shot of the PMDG CP in the Cooler for you to look at, Another thing you may notice is that on these types of monitors, no matter which brand it is, when you are in spot view the image draw rate is slowed by VGA mode, invest or verify that the DVI cable comes with it, or go get one

Thanks fellas. I'll watch for your shots Anthony.
I'm still shopping and haven't made up my mind yet.
This 19" Samsung CRT is taking up too much real estate and I need something with a larger screen.

Hey guys, I using a 32 inch LCD TV that I run the FS in full screen mode (alt enter) and it is great. Sure the panel is ovalish (new word) but after a few minutes, it seams just as normal as can be. With this size monitor, the panel is almost full size. I have an ATI 1600x with 512MB but haven't had any luck with DVI operation. When I hook up the DVI cable, I can count the frame rate. It may be something I haven't done with the video card. Must keep reading....Take care

This is what I'm considering:
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16824112005
I have not made a decision yet. I'm not going to be satisfied if the monitor streches the MIP. Still searching.

Michael, I too would like a monitor with no distortion, however the solution is when FS is produced in 16:9 format. I have another monitor that has automatic format and it fills the screen with no distortion, but in the clipped mode. So the top and bottom of the display are cut off. Try running FS2004 with no upper or lower menues. For now, we just can't seem to win. Clarke

I just bought a Samsung 931C 19" normal aspect ratio model from NewEgg.com.
2000:1 contrast ratio and 2ms refresh rate. I hope I like it.
