I'm not sure where my screen resolution should be set on the hardware tab in settings in FS2004. I have one monitor and an NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS with Core Duo 2 @ 1.86 and 3GB RAM. I've always wondered if I should keep my resolution at default 800x600x32 (not sure what the last number 32 means) or change it. Thoughts?

Thank you for your responses. My video skips at times--especially when I'm using DVA aircraft. Any suggestion on display settings in FS9 for the following:
FS2004
Win XP
Intel Core 2 6300 @1.86 GHz
3GB RAM DDR2 PC5400
GeForce 7600 GS 512MB DDR2
It's a bit aggrivating...

Evan,
The last number is the color depth in bits. old video was 8 bit, then 16-bit, now 32-bit. Even higher is coming. Simple rule of thumb, the higher the number the better the color saturation. It does come at a perfromance cost on slower PCs with older vid cards. You can run at 32 bit with no problem.

Thanks, Rob. I'm just puzzled as to why the game still skips at these settings--
Scenery--medium high
Aircraft--medium low
Weather--medium low

Your computer is running 500Mhz faster than mine. My scenery is set same as yours with my aircraft settings maxed out. I won't skimp on my aircraft. I'll sacrifice everything before the I start turning down aircraft settings.
Take a look at your Global scenery settings and the Autogen settings. These seem to eat up frames on my system. My autogen is set to medium and Global is set about in the middle, maybe a bit past that to the right. Turn off Extended Terrain Textures. There's not much to see at FL350 and from my real world experience you resolve much past 60-70 miles at 8,000' anyway.
Hardware lighting and and the setting above or below that (I can't remember now what it is) will have an impact of your computer performance as well. That's in your hardware settings tab.
The idea is to get as much performance out of the system with as much graphics as the system can handle and still get acceptable performance. It's all a compromise in one area or the other and no two systems will perform exactly the same, even with the same hardware. Computers are almost like people in this respect.
I have a lot of experience trying to do the most with the least.
