Jay,
A lot of it depends on what kind of processor you have and how much cooling power you have to go with it (OC'ing releases a lot of thermal energy). I had an AMD a few years back that I managed to overclock by changing some jumpers on the mobo and settings in the BIOS. Basically, the idea is that if you pump some extra energy into the processor, you can bump up the clock speed.

Just some friendly advise when embarking on something you are not sure of, especially when it comes to Computers and OC'ng. The articles posted and comments suggested are purely speculatory, Carp' Diem' is the adage BEWARE when OC'ng. BEWARE, You do this at your own risk, If you blow things up, don't post articles and say my system just blew up thanx
A lot of variables have to be considered when Over clocking and what other effects on components and data transfer are effected, Questions to ask yorself prior to embarking on this?
1. Most importantly, Do I understand what will happen if something goes wrong?
2. Does the means out way the end results?
3. What Type of components are in my system, are they capable of handling the stress that I am about to put on them?
4. Do I have enough in mybank account to repair the things That I BLOW UP
Have fun be smart about it and most of all Good Luck

I personally avoid overclocking as it leads to system instability... but that's just me

Andre, in your case, you have a strong computer processor. OC'ng yours in my opinion, you might get it to 3.2 before you start seing some adverse affects on programs and hardware (sound card, vid card etc) you run, added heat, and you won't get the noticable upgrade. With only 512 megs of ram, your best bet is to get more ram.

Hi Dane, i am rather mixed up when it comes to what i should go for. Ok, heres my specs:
3.06 Ghz Intel P4
512Mb RAM
Win XP
ATI 9600 256Mb
Ok, so where does my comp lie, as in 'goodness' terms, lol.
I have FSX but really, i cannot run it.
What will extra RAM provide for my system? Will my gaming experience change?
Many thanks for any help.
3394.

Well I am not sure, I have a P4 2.8 gig, Geforce 5500 with 256 megs onboard ram, and 2 gigs of ram. I can run FSX with realistic settings pretty good. The other thing I did was told windows I wanted to control the virtual memory instead of windows and turned it up to 2 gigs. There are a lot of sliders in FS that don't need to be turned up since you in real life can't see that far anyway and they just impact FPS.
The ram helps with the storage of 'pictures' that your going to use as you move through the game. The more ram you have, the more you can store and then your system doesn't have to write it as you fly which slows it down.

ok, go to your control panel and left click on system. A window will open up showing your computer specs etc. Click on the advanced tab. You should see performance at the top, then user profiles, and start up and recovery. Click on the performance settings button. That will open the performance options. Click on the advanced tab again and at the bottom you will see a virtual memory window and select change. Keep playing with it and bumping it up until you get the results you want. Just remember that what ever # you choose to change it to needs to be divisable by 8 or you'll throw the whole thing off.
