Quinten asked me to post and stick this for him. This pertains to those of you using Vista and FS.
This tutorial can also be used with most programs that are having issues running smoothly and constantly gives errors in Vista.
1. Open the conflicting program folder which houses the executable file(.exe) which in this case is Microsoft Games/Flight Simulator 9 and find the .exe Use the FixFS picture for this step.
2. Right click on the .exe and go down to properties, this should open up a window with the General, Compatibility, Security, and Details tab. Click on Compatibility. Use with FixFS1 pic.
3. At the bottom of the list you will save run as administrator, make sure there is a check mark in this box. If so then the program should run normally without any errors now. Use with FixFS2 pic.
4. If it still runs with errors then you can follow Step 1 and 2 back to the compatibility tab but this time put a check mark in Run this program in compatibility mode with Windows XP(Service Pack 2). Use with FixFS3 pic.
If these steps still don't fix your problem you can contact me at fsflyer56@yahoo.com and we can try more detailed fixes but this fix should solve most of the problems vista users are having with FS and other programs that may run with errors. This can be used for any other program that you might have that doesn't run correctly.
The problem that causes most programs to run incorrectly is the User Access Control(UAC) feature in vista. This adds another step of security to the Operating System which helps block out unneeded malware and viruses. The way it works is that it gives every program running in vista an access card. All programs by default gets a regular access card to your computer. This only gives the program rights your computer but it cant change or modify files, thats when the program gives u errors that you see on the screen or in some cases don't see. When you select run as administrator you are telling vista to give this program full access to your computer which in turn lets it do everything that is needed to run properly. There was a feature like this in Windows 2000 but was removed in Windows XP. Most XP programs think that they are automatically getting administrator privileges but thats not the case for vista. When you see UAC bring up a little black seethrough window asking for your permission to run this program this is where it gets its admin access card. It depends on how you answer it. If you want to disable UAC so you dont have to go through this or see that screen anymore feel free to contact me but in turn your opening up your computer to attacks more easily.

Hmm are you a administrator on your computer? If you created a new account other than the one that was on there first you might not have the privlages to edit that.

Ha. One of the biggest reasons I opted not to upgrade to Vista was because I would've had to get FSX and lose all of my purchased add-ons until they (hopefully) had compatability patches released for each one. This now leaves me with no reason not to! Thank a ton!
