Guys,
Today I got a message pop up that told me that I had spyware installed in my computer. I immediatly closed the browser page and disconnected the Internet. As soon as the page was closed, I noticed that there was a new icon on my desktop named SPYLOCKED. Since I knew that I hadnt installed anything new, I googled it and came up with this page : http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic85376.html . Now, my question is, have any of you guys heard of this website and know if it can be trusted or not? Is it safe to download the file that the page says its needed to remove the spyware. The picture of the message baloon is the same that I am getting on my PC.
Thanks in advance,

One of the more annoying sales tactics to date: "Buy our spyware removal software so you can remove the spyware we put on your system to advertise it!"
There are some removal tools available. Unfortunately I can't tell you which ones are good and which aren't as I haven't had to deal with this one myself.

Do a system restore to a day before you started having the problem. Thats what I usually do when I have issues. Or search for and download a program called Spybot Search and Destroy and see if that can remove the problem program.

Daniel,
I did a system restore for up to 4days before I got the virus message, and everytime, it said that no changes were made to my pc and that I should try again. I did try again multiple times, and got nothing. Is there something I am missing, or should I just keep going back to earlier dates until a change is made?
Thanks for your help,

The program is probably regenerating itself on your PC. You first need to remove all visible traces of it from your hardrive. To do this, I would boot to safe mode first. These things usually create a folder having to do with some kind of video codec. You will see the executibles located there. After you have deleted them, (out of your recycle bin as well). Reboot your computer and then try the restore from days before the issue began.

Norm- I didt what you suggested, but the system restore still wont do anything. Its not restoring back to any date. I deleted the filed in Safe Mode and from the Recycle Bin, but its still showing up.
Perez- Thats weird that we have the same problem at the same time lol. i scanned my PC with XoftSpyXE a couple of days ago and it found the file. I deleted it, but it came up again.
Like Perez said, I anyone knows a cure, or any other suggestions, please post them here....
Regards and thanks,

The system restore issue is probably due to something else and not this issue. Make sure you clear out all your temp directories as well. These things get into your PC with hooks and sometimes the only way to get rid of them is a rebuild.

I had some time to look at this one and there is some fairly intense file removal, registry editing involved to remove this. If you are not comfortable following the instructions that have been provided on the web or don't have an "expert" to help you, a rebuild might be in order. There appears to be a few payware products available that might remove it, but definately do not purchase the one they are trying to get you to buy. At any rate, I would make sure all your impotant files are backed up.

Any good removal tool should tell you what files it installs. The Symantec site ( http://www.symantec.com ) lists the files installed by the Spylock annoyware. Enter "spylock" in the search line at the top of the page, then look at page two of the removal instructions. Unfortunately the rest is for someone with Norton Anti virus installed, but they do list what files it installs and where it installs them.
Before removal you need a verified clean boot disk. It is best to do the removal from a DOS boot (NOT a DOS prompt in Windows) because the modules will register themselves with Windows and can't be removed if Windows is active. After that it's a matter of keeping a good anti-spyware program up to date and your system innoculated.

I have had this same problem many times. My dad (a computer genius) just told me to ignore it and sure enough the little bubble warning stopped popping up and the "advertisement" went away.

Ignoring it won't make it go away. There are freeware removal options out on the network. The removal tool that worked for me is located at http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix_En.php and is a command-line program. If you use it you should have the computer in Safe mode and run the program from the command prompt. Like HJT, it displays a bunch of stuff that is normal for Windows but unlike HJT it will call out items it thinks are part of the spyware in a text report. You can then tell Smitfraudfix to clean the spyware, which worked for me.

There are many PC guru forums around that can help you innoculate this without reformatting and loosing everything. They'll have you install a small program called "hijack this". You run that and post the log file it creates to their forums and usually within minutes they can walk you through removing the spyware.
