I have some questions about the 727 and promotions.
First, my 727 question is... ARE THERE AVAILABLE FREE PANELS FOR THE 727 (CAPT. AND F/O) AND DO THESE HAVE AUTO THROTTLES THAT WORK (I'VE SEEN SOME WITH THE SELECTOR, BUT THAT ALSO DON'T WORK)?
My final 727 question is... MY FAVORITE COMMERCIAL AIRCRAFT IS THE 727, SO CAN ANYONE GIVE ME FEEDBACK (POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE) ABOUT THIS CLASSIC?
Next, my promortion question is... WHAT DO YOU DO (BESIDES COMPLETE YOUR INITIAL 10 FLIGHTS) TO BECOME A CAPTAIN?
My other promotion question is... IF I AM PROMOTED TO CAPTAIN ON THE 737 (WHICH WAS MY INITIAL AIRCRAFT), WHEN I DECIDE TO TRANSFER TO ANOTHER PLANE, DO I HAVE TO START FROM F/O AGAIN AND DO ANOTHER 10 FLIGHTS TO BECOME CAPTAIN ON THAT PLANE?
Thank you very much!

I don't think the 727 has an AUTO anything.
Dreamfleet 727 is suppose to be the best payware currently available.
If you are a Captain and switch programs, you will enter the new program as a F/O

Nick:
Welcome aboard DVA!!
The 727 does not have much of anything auto as Norm mentioned. It is almost entirely fly by hand and that is usually why the group of pilots that fly it really enjoy the experience. It does have an auto pilot but not anything like the T7 etc. It is a great plane to fly but does take some practice. I would suggest enrolling in the PPL course where you will be taught to hand fly without the use of autopilot and will learn how to navigate and of course the use of pitch-power-trim. If you have any other specifics you would like information shoot me an email anytime.
Good luck and see you on the flight line.

Nick,
Your path to the 727 is fly 10 flights in the 738, pass the Captain's exam and get promoted to B738 Captain. After that, take the 727 First Officer Exam, apply for a program transfer to the 727 and you'll be assigned a checkride. Once you pass the checkride you are in the B727 program as a first officer and you repeat the process (10 flights, exam) to become captain again.

As Jim and Norm have mentioned, the 727 isn't really like today's modern aircraft in regards to automatic flying - if you want to fly the 727 you should resign yourself to the fact that you'll need to be on top of the airplane at all times (or she will bite you) - this is one of the reasons that so few pilots are in the program compared to some of the others.
If you are dead set on coming to the 727 and you don't have any experience with flying or navigation, sign up for the PPL course at the Flight Academy and by the time they get done with you over there, flying the Mighty 727 will not be a problem

It's me again. I'd like to add something to one of my 727 questions. As most of you have mentioned, the 727 doesn't have "auto" things much. However, I fly the airplanes using mainly Altitude Hold, and Heading Hold. I also use the auto throttles if available, but that's not as important as ALT and HDG. Can you guys give me some more specific info on the 727's autopilot features?
Thanks!

Sure - you can hold the altitude and the heading with the autopilot and even track a radial off of a VOR with it. The Dreamfleet 722 from flight1.com is hands down the best thing out there - $35 and downloadable with a credit card #
There is no auto-throttle on the DF722 though, but really, what you should be doing is climbing out holding an indicated airspeed with your pitch, not your throttle. During cruise, throttle back to 3000 pph and during descent, use your pitch to maintain the airspeed again - these techniques are taught in the Flight Academy btw

btw, if you want to see some footage of the 727 cockpit - I have some videos on my website http://www.lewisde.com/ just click on the flight sim stuff, find videos and check them out - those are the DF722. If you want to make out the cockpit features, such as in the full ILS for 16R at KSLC in the cockpit, I suggest downloading the MPG version and if you can't display it, you'll probably need to install one of those DVD player software things - not sure what codec it is - MPG2?

Thanks George! I am still only 14 years old, and am not willing to spend any money on addons. Got anything that's for free that has the things that I need (HDG, ALT)? Thanks!

The 727 is awesome. Dreamfleets's payware versionis spot on, and worth the $$$. High recommend it.
IMO, flying a 727 with anything more than a very basic autopilot is no fun. I imagine you could add auto throttle to it with a panel editor if you really wanted too. Check http://www.avsim.com for freeware panels. To become a 727 captain you must first pass the 727 F/O exam. Afterwards you must request a transfer into the program. Then you must complete 10 flights and take the captains exam. Upon passing said exam you'll be promoted.

The fleet installer may even have an autothrottle - I've only flown it once - the DF722 is that good
