ok i've started to have a problem that decided to start at the spur of the moment. One day like a week ago i started up flight simulator and noticed a drop in frame rates. To make a long story short whenever i run fs9 the computer is only letting fs9 use up 50% of the CPU memory usage as indicated by the task manager. I would like to get the problem fixed fast because it has really killed my framerates. Any help would be great. To let you know i have already tried to change the priority of the program by right clicking it in the task manager.
Thanks,
Zach Lincolnhol

I'm a little confused by your terminology "CPU Memory." Are you referring to CPU usage or physical memory, i.e. ram usage. Also, please post some system specs including CPU type, ram, graphics card...

Make sure you don't have too many things runnning at once. Also, did you recently install anything the last couple of days? Because that new program might be taking up to much memory. I would check to make sure you have some free memory by right clicking on your main drive in "my cmoputer."

There is a program that I dont remember the name (shame on me!) where you can set up the programas you wish to be shut down when you start your FS and the programs you wish to be started. For example, you can set up when you start FS MSN, Yahoo and AIM automatic shuts down, and the Delta ACARS open too.
If you have few memory this program can helps... I just can't remember the name!!!
Also, you can stop some Windows services you dont need while flying, like Print Spooler, Help and Support, Run As Service, and others. Just go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools and services. If you stop a wrong service and make some mess, just restart your PC and things will be fine again.

Luiz the program you are refering to is called FSAutostart. A realling great program, although you do need to be familiar with what services and programs you need and which ones you don't.

Not sure why they would drop suddenly, but you seem a bit light in the RAM department. I would suggest a minimum of 1gb and if your computer will handle it....2gb. Changing the priority of FS9 to something higher than what it was, with only 512mb, could have caused issues with the OS. I would suggest not changing that setting unless you increase RAM. There are many services that can be disabled within Windows, especially during fly times. Make sure your AV program isn't running a scan or attempting updates. I personally turn off the Windows update service, and only enable it when I want to actually do the update. ADOBE, ITUNES and other such programs also may have auto updaters turned on that could cause sluggishness.

thanks for all of your help guys. What it was is that i just updated the McAfee virus software and for some reason it was scanning my computer every day like twice a day without it notifying me. I changed the settings and everything is back to normal.

Man, the older versions of FS seem kind of nice in some ways. Now you fly with so much extra baggage. SquawkBox, FSINN, Radar Contact, Active Sky, etc..., to make your flight as real as it gets. Then add to those some of the large, sophisticated addon aircraft (PMDG, Level D, PSS, etc...) and scenery that it's no wonder the CPU gets bogged down pretty quickly. Fly into the Cloud9 KLAX scenery using the PMDG744 during a busy, online group event and it gets painful.
