I recently upgraded my video card from a nVidia 7300 LE to an 8600 GTS. I also upgraded my power supply from 300w to 500w. I forget if my issue started before or after I switched cards. Usually I will fly on FS, and I do a lot of long hauls, so I will run Firefox and browse the web, run media player and listen to music, along with Active Sky and ACARS. A month ago, this all ran fine. But recently, what will happen is I will have FS9, Active Sky, and ACARS running (sometimes Windows media player) and I will try to open up Firefox. It runs fine for a few minutes but then my Firefox freezes. I either press Ctrl Alt Del and end the Firefox process or just click the red X at the top and click "End Now" because it is not responding. Then I can't run anything else. Even though Firefox has closed, and the process ended, when I try to open firefox again, or any other program, it doesn't run. I can see the process in the "Processes" list, and it will be using up 50% CPU and about 3,000 kb of memory. But no other programs will run. Active Sky, FS9, and ACARS are still running fine. So basically it gets to the point where I can't run any other programs. Well I decided to try turning the display settings on my FS down a bit, since they were set at max. I turned them down to where they were before I got the new video card. This helped, but I still have this problem. When FS is running, it usually uses no more than 50% CPU and anywhere between 80,000 - 600,000 kb of memory (as indicated in the "Processes" list. I thought this problem was heat related. So I called nVidia and asked to see if my card was running at an ok temperature. They said 68 C was fine, which is what it runs at while playing FS. So I began to think it may be my processor getting too hot and limiting itself. The temperature of my processor idles around 43 C and playing FS it goes up to 52 C (if I remember correctly). Is this too hot? Could this be the cause? Remember this all was fine a month ago, and I don't know if my new power supply or video card is causing it.
Please help me figure this out and what to do to fix it.
Thanks in advance!

How much RAM do you have? Usually, more RAM means more multi tasking. Its seems you may need more RAM.

If its just Firefox, you might want to reinstall it. Try IE7 as an alternate and see if it happens with that. It may be a Firefox add-on that is the problem.

Yeah I thought it was firefox too, since it uses a massive amount of memory sometimes. But IE6 freezes as well when I try to run it.

Tried IE7, but no change. Like I said, its not the browsers because any program will freeze or just not run, but programs such as FS9, ASv6, and ACARS will be unaffected.

Here are some screen shots of my Process list and status of my CPU, hopefully this will help:

The first pic shows my process list sorted by Memory Usage. The second pic shows the same thing, but as you can see, firefox.exe is running, but the program itself is not. So basically the process is showing up but won't run (remember this happens with any program). The third pic shows my CPU and Page File usage.

Yes your cpu is limting itself due to the heat it is making. For the Duo core that temp is way to high I have a the Duo core E6850 and mine will run at 23'c and thats with the cooler out of the box so might I add check the speed your fan is turning max speed it will go is about 3000 rpm. Also if you used the thermal soultion that came with it replace it with one out of a hardware store or someplace like it.
Just so you know when I was running box cooler with box thermal solution mines ran that high and was really slow so if you change the thermal solution and check your fan speed it should fix itself.
