Hey guys, lately I have been having some trouble with my FS9 program. I fly mainly all long-haul trips, and usually about mid way through, sometimes very early on my menu bar disappears and I get a jumble of colors, etc, like screwed up graphics the size of the menu bar at the bottom of my screen. I run in windowed mode. I tried making sure that my resolution was the same for the program as in XP. after awhile the program Crashes to desktop. I cannot open any other programs, and my right mouse button ceases to function. I ran scanafd to check for duplicate AFD files, I had heard that they cause this problem. I get the problem mainly when switching views, like for example 2D panel to Virtual cockpit etc., especially switching quickly. This problem is very very very frustrating. I appreciate any help. Thank you.

Michael,
Have you installed any new software and then this happens after the install??? Not specifically fs related but anything!
You might try renaming your fs config file to fs9.bak or something you will remember and the next time you launch it fs9 will make a new config file. If that works then great, if not you can delete the new one and rename the old one back to fs9.cfg.
This file is usually located here: C:\Documents and Settings\ (your user name) \Application Data\Microsoft\FS9\fs9.cfg
I've had that problem before but that was about 2 computers ago so I don't exactly remember what was up!
Barrie
Edit: Also, have you ever run msconfig before launching fs to minimize the system load? What have you got under the hood so to speak?

Well Barrie, I've got a P4 2.8 GHz CPU, ATI X1950 PRO, and 3GB GSkill RAM. No I have never run msconfig.exe before running FS. Always kinda made me leery of doing that b/c bad things always seem to happen when i fool with it. I've got a lot of RAM, but when I open up TaskManager I have a lot of processes running. Any clues as to what to shut down what not to? As for the FS9.cfg file, I'll try that.

Okay, this might be a bit much but here goes. I searched a bit and found this: http://www.deltava.org/thread.do?id=0xbb9a I'll keep looking but somewhere I have seen a 'simple' msconfig routine. I used to do it but with the machine I have now there are no issues. Perhaps try reinstalling your video driver.
Barrie
Edit: How about a screenshot of your taskmanager??? I'll run through the msconfig thing on this end and note the steps.
Edit: Okay, did the msconfig thing and this shouldn't do anything bad! When it starts you want to check the box for Selective Startup and tick in the boxes for Load System and Use Original boot.ini
Now go over to the Services tab and tick the box for Hide All MS Services. The remaining svcs you will probably recognize as coming from software you've installed. Uncheck these at your discretion, i.e. leave the anti-virus and spyware things alone.
Now close and you'll get a prompt to reboot, do so and the msconfig box will pop open, just close it and run fs. You must remember to set it all back to 'normal' depending on what you're going to do with the machine. I know, pain in the neck but you may be able to narrow it down to what is causing the problem.

Actually Barrie I believe the problem was my FS9.cfg. See, I run FS9 on a slave HD and my C:\ still had the old settings from before I formatted the slave. Therefore I believe the old Fs9.cfg file was causing a bottleneck as well as slowing the program down in a way. I AM going to try the msconfig setup. I mainly run Fs9 only so I will see how it goes. Good news though now I can run the PSS757 at 20 FPS. Before the format/VID CARD upgrade/FS9.cfg file rename I was getting low low numbers. Thanks for the help.
I will upload the pics of my taskmanager. Thanks
