I've just blasted out of CVG in the delta va MD-88 with settings reasonably average. I have a 2.6Ghz Pentium with 512mb of RAM and a 128mb Radeon 9500 using FS2004. Despite the frame rate display saying well over 20fps im still getting stuttering, especially when looking left or right out of the internal views (looking out the side cockpit windows if you like).
Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this happens? Or how to fix it?
Cheers in advance guys!

I don't know how to fix this isue but I know it happens because the frame rate will go up en down (by example it go's from 20fps to 36 in seconds) you could try and lock the frame rate at about 25 to 30 fps,
I hope you understand what i'm saying?

Hi, I think it's caused by the fact that when looking out the side views that is when the scenery is moving the fastest across the screen. Your framerate will not drop but you will get stuttereing as the GPU struggles to draw the terrain, 3d objects, clouds, etc, as they move across the screen.

Will:
What may be your problem is that you have a high end video card with not enough system memory to push the graphics. I had this problem when I first installed my Nvidia Ultra 5900. I had 512Mb of RAM PC2700 @ 400Mhz. When I upgraded to a 1ghz memory chip PC2700 @ 400Mhz and added that into the system, things smoothed out for me. I get constant 50-70 FPS on the ground, in the air and just about anywhere with everything turned up.
You may also want to check the programs you are running in the background as this will eat up your resorces really fast. Especially with only 512Mb of RAM.
Another thing to consider is your OS. If it is XP, this OS refuses to dump memory back into the system for 3D game usage. I do not have an explanation for this though.
Here's my system.
2.8Ghz P4
1.5 Ghz DDR PC2700 RAM
Nvidia Ultra 5900 256Mb Video Accelerator card.
80G Hard Drive
500W Power Supply
FS2K4 with all the bells and Whistles.
XP Operating System
PS - One last thing to check, make sure your power supply is powerful enough to drive the video card. Check the specs on the card documentation.
Hope this helps.

i have a simple solution. Just get rid of the clouds, works every time. Weather simulation is a big factor. Along with your flight, scenery, and instrument panels. The only thing that you don't need are the clouds.

I dont think getting rid of the coulds is a pheseable answer. Thats part of the whole ball of wax. I like to see the weather change from one area to another, I always download real world weather when I fly.

Get 512MB more RAM. You will notice a surprisingly huge difference in your performance. I did.
Even with 1 GB of RAM, I still get stutters (Athlon XP 2500, GeForce 4 Ti 4200 128MB 4xAGP). Real weather programs can cause stutters sometimes, whether built-in FS2004 or an add-on like ActiveSky 2004. Clouds are the biggest killers on my system; that old 4200 can draw maximum density autogen scenery no problem, but put a thick cloud deck in front of me and it screams for mercy.

I had the same problem with AI WX on my system, but surprisingly enough it doesn't have a problem at all with WX generated on SB. I don't know why this is, but I'm glad it works as well as it does.
Another thing I found useful is a program called "End it All". It is a very powerful program tool that will allow you to shutdown everything running in the background except for essential files to keep the computer alive. You can cause the system to become unstable though depending on what you shutdown. Experimentation is the best method to find out what you can, and shouldn't shut down to get the best performance out of your machine.
And I need every advantage I can get with what I'm using.
