I recently upgraded my 939 AMD system.
The Change was massive.
Prior to the upgrade my system was:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.01 GHz Single Core w/ stock cooler.
MSI K8N-Neo4F Mobo
1GB Crutial banded 184-pin DDR2
EVGA nVidia 7950GT OC GPU
Creative Audigy SE Audio Card
3dMark score 3250
FS9 FPS@KATL 3-9
CPU Usage 90% or higher at all times
No Overclocking
After the upgrade
AMD Athlon 64 x2 2.2GHz 4200+ Dual Core w/ Rosewill RCX-Z5-Ultra Cooler
2GB OCZ Platimun Dual Channel Kit
3dMark Score 5245
FS9 FPS@KATL 16-30 (Locked at 30FPS)
CPU Usage never goes above 45-50% (dual core)
No Overclocking
If I let the FPS go unlimited, the sim stutters like crazy. Locked at anything less than 45 makes the sim perfectly smooth. THe oly problems I encounter are under time compression, Megacity sceneries at higher than 2x cause severe FPS hits. In real time, the FPS stays at 24 or better at all times.
This is not the holy grail or anything, I just hit on a really good combination that works wonderfully, and felt I should share this with everyone. The upgrade was under 225 bucks!
BTW I am running XP Home SP2. I tried out Vista Ultimate, oh what a joke!!!! I'll stick with XP for a long while.
