if you are asking in terms of FS running, the RAM you have in there should be plenty! I wouldn't add anymore. I have 512mb and my FS runs just fine. If you are asking in general, I would say that you just add one more stick.

well i run fs9 with no problems but FSX is a little shaky. i have a P4 3.0Ghz processor, and NVidia GEForce8600 SE 256mbx4 video card. so the only thing i can think of is that my ram is not good enough.

If it's a Pentium 4 Prescott 3.0Ghz processor, your CPU is the bottleneck.
Cheers!

what are good processors now days for graphics hogs like FSX? my computer is a little over 3 years old so it might just be a little out of date.

Its time to think about a new system. I run an E6850 with 4Gig of pc8500 now 1066Mhz , The debate is on going about the Q cores and FsX ability to utilize all four, I hold at 24FPS with moderate settings and GEX UTX FEX and ASX with add ons like the Level D I egt 14 On the ground smoothe yet to boot and back up to 24 when I am at cruise. For the budget minded folks a C2D with 2 Gigs and an 8800 or ATI card will get you through the Trials and errors of FSX. just as when FS9 came out, everyone wanted to crank it up to Full bore, only to find out that there PC was holding them back, I primarily run FS9 for my online fun, and It screams now, <G> don't figure.

I have a quad core and I can't say for sure how may cores FSX is utilizing but I can say FSX is very easy to get good FPS with on my machine. processor is the Q6600 for reference.
