This may just be my poor graphics card (integrated Intel graphics with "up to" 96megs shared VRAM), but whenever I try to fly into or out of a traffic with high density (ie, 30 or so people departing or landing at one airport, like the MITRE event a few weeks ago), Squawkbox disconnects me and then freezes. When I try to reconnect, it freezes instantly.
My system:
Dell Optiplex GX150
P4 HT 2.8ghz
1.5gb RAM
40gb HD
I know she's due for a new vid card, but I don't think that Squawkbox should be freezing. I have the latest version of Squawkbox.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Zach,
Flying online into heavily congested areas is tasking on any computer. Yours not being the power houses that are built today is probably playing a part in the freeze up. Myself, I have an e6420 dual core, 2 gig ram, X1950 Pro 256meg AGP video card and I have severe FPS drop when flying in heavily congested areas. In fact to a point that I need to disconnect sometimes. No reason to ruin the experience of others when I cannot fly my aircraft properly. If SB works fine in less congested areas I would think the problem is more a systems overload than SB itself.
A graphics upgrade would help you out, but research before making the big plunge. If its an AGP card, buying the X1950 PRO like I did may not be the best use of your money. Same would go for an PCI-E card. Buying the "fastest" card may not show benefits on a slower system. I know, as I had an older system with a 9700 in it and upgraded to the X1950. There was little gain in performance, at least not enough to warrant the caost at the time.

Zach, Although I agree with Robert's recommendations, the MITRE event should be considered an extreme test case. My Squawkbox also locked up and crashed during the event (five times, in fact before I gave up) and I've got a fairly high(er)-end system (Core2Duo E6420, 2gb ram, 8800GTS video card). I think that with the MITRE event, we reached the upper limit of the number of multiplayer aircraft Squawkbox can handle and depending on the time you connected and the number of players SB tried to load, it usually had bad results. An upgrade certainly won't hurt all-around game play for you and I doubt you'll be disappointed, but take what happened to you during the MITRE event with a grain of salt.
