Is there a big impact on performance typically if I say had FS running in one window and the second display running FS Commander and ACARS + any other relevant software. My video card is designed for dual output, just looking for who has experience trying it

no issues - i have the "EXPAND MY DESKTOP" option checked.
I've been using dual, and now triple screens for years - and never had any issues. I have FS on one, FSCommander on another, ServInfo or Internet up...no problems

I actually run FSX on my laptop and hook it to my 42" Flatscreen for the Vroute, FSInn and ACARS screens. I could swap them around but the resolution is better on laptop.

Alex,
I run two monitors from one video card with no frame rate problems. On the second momitor I run Fsn and
either SB3 or FSINN.Also put in a cheap video card for a third monitor to run ACARS.Plus a laptop to run ServInfo.Sure makes FS a pleasure to run.I use winxp with 3gig of ram and a videocard with 512 of memory, plus some goflight equipment.

I got two laptops that provide me servinfo and chart information (my degree work involves going between Windows and Macs but I like to still use them for some play ) but it sounds like using the other screen for commander and such is a worthwhile attempt...seeing as how we have a nice flatscreen monitor with no user right now, might as well put it to some use.

Um also...how do I go about making it so FS doesn't run on both screens so I can access commander and such on the other screen...

Depends on the monitor and video card. My Laptop allows running full screen on laptop or second monitor, but only one or the other. I found that I get better framerate in windowed mode anyway so I do all my flying that way.

I am curious about that "Expand my Desktop" option. How does that work? Thanks.

when you go into the display properties (right click the desktop - click Properties), go to the SETTINGS tab, then when your other monitor is attached, you will have the option of which monitor to adjust. Below that are two windows:
1. Use this device as the primary monitor
2. Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor
That's how it "Expands" - wrong terminology!

Right now its on two monitors and its amazing, FS is in windowed mode but I've got FS Commander and ACARS up on the other screen and its a joy. I'd take a picture but my desk is so messy its somewhat embarrassing.

Thank you for the info Andrew. I need to look into the two monitor hook up. I run my laptop as an adjunct next to my 19 inch with Vroutes usually displayed. I do not have them connected however.

just plug it in - XP or Vista should find it - go into the settings like above and there you go. Old monitor, new monitor - as long as you set it up it'll work
